October 22, 2008 BFGoodrich® Tires Captures Runner-Up Honors in 2008 Formula Drift Series Championship GREENVILLE, S.C. BFGoodrich Tires capped off an impressive season at the final round of the 2008 Formula Drift Championship at Southern California's Irwindale Speedway on Saturday, October, 11. Two-time Formula Drift champion Samuel "The Crazy Swede" Hübinette narrowly missed his chance for a third Formula Drift title, taking the runner-up position in the final Formula Drift point standings following a quick exit after the second round of eliminations at the event. Despite tagging the wall during practice on Friday, which caused significant damage to his BFGoodrich-shod, Mopar Dodge Viper SRT10, Hübinette rebounded along with the help of his Mopar/Nuformz crew to capture the fourth qualifying spot heading into eliminations on Saturday. Hübinette received a bye run in the first round of tandem eliminations when Conrad Gruenwald was unable to stage due to mechanical problems. Abound with confidence heading into the quarterfinals, the "Crazy Swede" unfortunately spun out on the first tandem run against M. Takatori, thus ending his night and dashing his chance for a third Formula Drift championship. "Overall, it's been a great championship battle," said Hübinette. "I'm stoked about the excellent performance and power of my Mopar and BFGoodrich tires throughout the year. The NuFormz team has been working hard and they deserve big applause. Of course, we are all about winning a championship, but to finish second this year after taking fifth in 2007, we feel good. We'll try to bring home our third championship next year." "It's a great start for 2009," said NuFormz Racing owner and team manager Shaun Carlson. "The team worked well all season. We took three No. 1 qualifier spots and three podium finishes this year, and we're going to continue to move forward and try to dominate next year."
