BFGoodrich® Tires Launches Traction T/A® Tire; All-Season Performance Traction Tire Replaces Seven Tire Lines
Greenville, S.C.

BFGoodrich® Tires today launched the new Traction T/A tire for touring and sports car drivers looking for superior wet and dry traction, responsive handling and excellent treadlife.

The Traction T/A was originally introduced in 2000 as the spec tire for the American Speed Association (ASA) racing series. Since then, BFGoodrich Tires has continued to engineer the street-ready version of this race-proven tire and today launches it to the mass market.

"The Traction T/A is the next-generation in all-season touring and sports car tire technology," said Thom Peebles, brand director for BFGoodrich Tires. "The Traction T/A incorporates advanced design and performance elements that allow it to reach segments previously covered by seven different BFGoodrich tire lines."

Beginning in October, the Traction T/A will replace the Comp T/AVR4, Comp T/AHR4, Touring T/AVR4, Touring T/AHR4, Touring T/ATR4 and Touring T/ASR4. In addition, the new tire will replace the Control T/AM80 line beginning in 2004.

The Traction T/A is offered in T- (up to 118 mph), H-(up to 130 mph) and V-(up to 149 mph) speed ratings and can be purchased in 15-, 16- and 17-inch sizes. Compared with its predecessors, the Traction T/A achieves consistently better dry, wet and snow ratings during testing at BFGoodrich's Laurens Proving Grounds test facility.

"When designing this tire, we talked to a wide range of consumers and dealers with varying requirements," said Peebles. "Three of the top four consumer expectations in this segment are performance-related attributes and thus the primary engineering emphasis of the Traction T/A tire family."

Drivers of sport coupes and sedans want to experience the performance and handling of their respective vehicles, but most likely live in a part of the country that receives snowfall. The Traction T/A was developed to provide year-round performance, while creating minimal road noise. The new tire family offers the ideal combination of performance and traction and will meet customer expectations in any driving condition.

The Traction T/A will be original equipment on the base 2005 Ford Mustang, Chrysler Pacifica and Honda CR-V among others and will be available in a variety of sizes fitting a majority of passenger vehicles. The Traction T/A H- and V- rated tires come with BFGoodrich's 60,000-mile warranty, while the T-rated version is covered by a 70,000-mile warranty.
