August 19, 2008 BFGoodrich Tires Takes Second Place at Round Five of Formula Drift Series -“Crazy Swede” Hübinette Moves Into Points Lead- GREENVILLE, S.C. BFGoodrich® Tires had an inspirational showing during round five of the 2008 Formula Drift Championship at Evergreen Speedway in Washington, the first rain event in Formula Drift History. Two-time Formula Drift champion Samuel “The Crazy Swede” Hübinette captured the top qualifier honors and continued his momentum straight through to the finals, where he earned a runner-up finish and the series point lead behind the wheel of his NuFormz Racing Mopar Dodge Viper SRT10, equipped with BFGoodrich g-Force™ T/A® KDW tires.
Despite the consistent rain, Hübinette, the two-time Formula Drift Champion, piloted his Mopar/Nuformz Racing Dodge Viper SRT10 securely into the top qualifying position to start the event. In the first round of eliminations, Hübinette was paired against and defeated Ken Gushi, granting him a position in the quarterfinals, where he beat out Robbie Nishida. In an exciting semi-final bout, Hübinette faced and overcame Ryuji Miki, earning him a spot in the Formula Drift finals against 2005 Formula Drift titleholder, Rhys Millen. The highly anticipated final against Hübinette and Millen was intense. With the rain pouring down, both drivers pushed the envelope as they battled around the slick course. Hübinette left a considerable gap on the second run allowing the judges to award Millen the victory. Nevertheless, the runner-up finish was enough to send Hübinette and his BFGoodrich Tires-shod Mopar/Nuformz Racing Dodge Viper SRT10 to the next event with the much needed series point lead. “This was a great finish for us,” said Hübinette. “The track was very touchy and slick but the finesse of my Mopar/Nuformz Racing Dodge Viper SRT10 and the grip of the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW tires definitely helped me in the wet conditions. I’m excited that I made it to the podium again and that we have the points lead, this feels really good.”
